Grab Some Ice Cream
What’s better than getting ice cream on a hot day. Getting ice cream made right in front of you with liquid nitrogen. With locations in Arlington, Old Town Alexandria, and Adams Morgan you will never be too far to grab a scoop.

Paddle Through the City
One great way to beat the heat is to hop on a kayak or paddleboard and go down the Potomac. With great views of Roosevelt Island and the monuments, Thompson Boat Center is a great place to get on the water. Kayaks can also be rented at Ballpark Boathouse, Columbia Island Marina, Fletchers Boathouse, and Washington Sailing Marina.

Sail Away for the Day
Want to be on the water but don’t feel like paddling? Head down to The Wharf Boathouse and let the wind do the work for you. Pack a picnic and bring it on the boat or stop by the various restaurants along the Wharf

Splash Around at the Water Park
Hot day ahead? Take the kids to Ocean Dune Water Park located in Arlington, just a short drive from DC. Get your adrenaline pumping going down the 230ft water slide or just lounge around in the water jets. Either way, you will be keeping yourself cool in the heat of summer.

Go to a Museum
Looking for an activity that is free and keeps you in the air conditioning? Then head to one of the many museums that DC has to offer. Some of my favorites are the Air and Space, the Renwick, and Hirshhorn.

Take a Trip to the Beach
While you won’t be able to go to the Outer Banks for the day, you can make a day trip up to Sandy Point State Park up in Maryland. Splash in the bay or layout on the beach. Just don’t forget to hydrate and reapply your sunscreen!

Go Ice Skating
For those extra hot days where the heat makes it unbearable to be outside, head to the indoor ice skating arena. It will surely cool you off. Go to the MedStar Iceplex in Arlington and skate where the Washington Capitals practice!

Go on a Shopping Trip
If you’re having a lazy Sunday and looking to purchase some new goods but don’t want to break the bank head to the Tanger Outlets at National Harbor. You’ll find options ranging from Adidas to Yankee Candle.

Check out the National Zoo
A great place to head on a warmer day is the National Zoo in DC. The kids will love it and your wallet will thank you. If it gets the too hot head into the Reptile Center to cool off or walk through the misters located throughout the zoo.

Immerse yourself in Art
Feeling creative? Go on over to the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria to look at, create, and purchase art. There you can discover 82 working artist studios, 7 galleries, and 2 workshops.

Selling Your Home

Selling your home can seem like a daunting task on top of looking to move. Luckily it doesn’t have to be. With the help of a local real estate agent, the home selling process will be much easier. Here are some of the things to expect during the selling process so you can be better prepared down the road for when you’re ready to sell.

   The first step is to find a local real estate agent who knows the area well and can get you top dollar. A great way to find an agent is to ask your friends and family to refer you to an agent who they enjoyed working with. With the creation of the internet, you can also lookup real estate agents in your area and find one who seems like a good fit. Ultimately your choice will come down to who you like and communicate well with.

   After you have found the agent or agents that you want to move forward with the next thing will be working with the agent to agree to a price you will list the home at. There are many different strategies to pricing a home depending on the market that your agent will go over. Once the price is set it is time to get the house ready for showings. This may include making some repairs, decluttering and depersonalizing. You may even decide to stage the home in which case you would move the majority of items out of your home.

   Simultaneously your home will be marketed to both agents and the public through various outlets. This is when interest is generated leading up to showings and an open house. After time on the market, you will hopefully receive multiple offers which your agent will present and help you navigate. Once an offer has been negotiated/accepted you will work with a title company, your agent, and the buyers to close on your home. It is after all the paperwork is signed and settled that you will have your money in hand and the buyers will be happy new homeowners.

Ballston Quarter

The Ballston Quarter, formerly known as Ballston Common Mall, is beginning to wind down construction as stores are starting to open their doors. Located at the intersection of Glebe and Wilson, it has been over two years since work began on the mall and much has changed since then.   Forget the days of an indoor mall with the unhealthy food court, the Ballston Quarter offers anything but your typical mall food.  The Quarter Market is the reimagined food court with indoor and outdoor areas providing many different dining choices.  With places like True Food, Dirt, and the popular Punch Bowl Social you will never find yourself short on options. While the Quarter Market is officially open, there are still some parts of Ballston Quarter that are still not completed. The open air, community-based development will also include fitness, entertainment, and retail uses as construction on the site is finishing up soon.

Dorothy Hamm Middle School Arlington Va (Who was Dorothy Hamm?)

The new Dorothy Hamm Middle School is currently in use as the H-B Woodlawn and Stratford programs. 4100 Vacation Ln, Arlington, VA 22207
Soon H-B Woodlawn will relocate to its new location in Rosslyn.
Dorothy Hamm middle school will be home to almost 1000 students and open fall of 2019.
I was curious who is Dorothy Hamm?
This information is from the Library of Virginia:
Hamm and her son, Edward Leslie Hamm Jr., joined a civil action case in 1956 that sought to end segregation in Arlington schools. In 1958, a U.S. District Court judge ordered that four African American children be admitted to the all-white Stratford Junior High School the following year, making it the first white public school in Virginia to admit African Americans students.

How fitting to name this new school after Mrs. Hamm. She was a pioneer in making our city/county a better place.
